July 1975: Billie Jean King defeated Evonne Goolagong Cawley (6–0,6–1) in her last-ever Wimbledon Ladies Singles Final.
With a record 20 Wimbledon titles and 39 Grand Slams, Billie Jean King is simply one of the greatest tennis players in history. More than this, she remains a fierce advocate for women’s and gay rights to this day. A dedicated spectacle wearer, Billie Jean famously wore different glasses on and off court. “I hated the cat-eye glasses popular in my youth, so I sometimes took them off for photos. I grew to love them when I realised they were vital to my on-court success.”
It’s easy to take good eyesight for granted. But not everyone is so lucky. We'd love you to make a donation to Guide Dogs for the Blind. Let’s get some tails wagging.
