December 1987: After 16 years of entertaining millions of British TV viewers, the curtain came down on The Two Ronnies with their final Christmas Special.
Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett flirted with contact lenses while working on their long-running Saturday Night TV show, but became so grumpy that their producers begged them to put their glasses back on. Just as well — their eyewear went on to become an instantly recognisable visual signature, starring on the show’s classic opening titles (Barker’s specs on top, Corbett’s below). Fun fact: singer Robbie Williams, a lifelong fan, has a tattoo of the pair’s glasses on his neck.
It’s easy to take good eyesight for granted. But not everyone is so lucky. We'd love you to make a donation to Guide Dogs for the Blind. Let’s get some tails wagging.
